How to Color Grayscale Coloring
Have you seen the beautiful new grayscale coloring books and pages that
are coming out now? I have and I
love them, especially getting to see
the final colored versions, they remind of an old time photograph that
has been tinted. However, as much as I love grayscale coloring pages, I
had one teensy problem, I couldn't figure out the best way to color one
and I figured that, like me, you were going to be wondering. So, after
much trial and error, and some research here is the best way to color a
grayscale coloring page.
A grayscale coloring page
Step 1: Choose a color palette. I find that choosing a color palette
helps me get an idea of the final version of my grayscale coloring
page. And what it will look like. Not sure how to choose a color
Believe it or not, you can visit colorexplorer.com, and other color
palette websites and it will help you choose one!
Step 2: Choose colored pencils that match your color palette colors as
closely as possible.
Step 3: Choose a place to start coloring. The nice thing about
grayscale coloring pages is that most of the shading is already there
for you. All you have to do is begin to color over the shading. In most
cases, the shading will show through your colored pencil.
Step 4: In darker places, color more darkly, and in spots that are more
lightly shaded, don't press as hard and jus
t leave a light coating of
Tip 1: With dark grayscale coloring pages, as mentioned above most, if
not all the shading is done for you. But not all grayscale-coloring
pages are dark. Some are light. With light grayscale coloring
more of the shading is left up to the colorist. In this case, you may
want to choose a light, medium and dark shade of your particular color
and then begin by using the light colored pencil for a bit of the
selected item, and then move on to medium and dark. This will help to
bring out what shading there is in a light grayscale coloring page.
Tip 2: If you really want to take your coloring to the next level
consider using a bit of petroleum jelly on your pencil tip or a q-tip
to spread the color on your grayscale coloring page. It gives the color
a brighter more even tone and can make your adult coloring pages really
look like a piece of art.
